If You Are Under 18 Years

If you are under 18, Hawaii DMV will issue a learner’s permit before you can take a road test and earn a full and unrestricted driver’s license.

The learner’s permit and the provisional license come with some driver restrictions. It is a good idea to thoroughly understand the Hawaii graduated licensing system and the conditions that will apply to your permit.

If You Are 18 Years or Older

If you are 18 years old (or older), you will still need to pass the knowledge test before taking the road test. Questions on your test are the same as on the permit test.

After passing all necessary tests, the DMV issues a full and unrestricted driver’s license – unless you applied for a permit.

Read the Hawaii Driver’s Manual

It is a good idea to get the latest version of the Hawaii Driver’s Manual when preparing for a driver’s license or learner’s permit. The manual contains the most essential rules and safety tips for a new driver. You will also find all answers to the test questions in this manual.

Give the manual thorough attention and a considerable amount of time. The more you use the manual, the better prepared you will be for the test.

Take All Practice Tests

Practice tests will help you prepare and learn faster. Our Hawaii practice tests are all designed for the State of Hawaii and aim to make the real knowledge test easier.

If you disagree with an answer, always look up the facts in the Hawaii Driver’s Manual.

The manual is your best friend when studying for a new permit or driver’s license.
