Study North Carolina Road Signs
Before the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) issues a learner’s permit or driver’s license, you must prove that you recognize and understand some North Carolina road signs.
NCDOT will ask you to identify twelve different road signs on a separate test. You must correctly identify at least nine of them.
You must identify North Carolina road signs by shape, color, and symbols on the sign recognition test. You must also recognize the most common signs and how to act when you see them.
All signs are described in the North Carolina Driver Handbook.
Shapes and Colors
Remember, shape and color make it possible to recognize many highway signs from a distance or at a short glance.
